Diploma of Retail Management WRR50102
The Diploma has been designed for those who hold or wish to hold higher management positions. These roles would involve providing support to senior management in a larger retail outlet or being responsible for the management of a retail store.
It is a nationally recognised qualification of 12 months duration.

Alison's retail management experience ranges from single site to multi-site franchise networks. She has a particulary good understanding of retail issues regarding inventory, people management, finance, operations, strategic management, frontline management, marketing and merchandising; and human resource development from the point of view of both franchisors and franchisees
In addition to her experience, Alison is a qualified trainer and holds relevant retail management qualifications.
Delivery modes
The course is designed to meet the individual needs of students and so delivery modes are flexible. For example, delivery may involve:
- Individual face to face delivery at students workplace,
- Group delivery if required at students workplace,
- Group delivery at a PSG venue if required,
- By distance learning mode
Organization of Delivery of Course
The qualification will be delivered and assessed as follows:
- An initial assessment will be done for each unit to determine if RCC/RPL may apply,
- RCC/RPL process will be commenced where applicable,
- Any competency gap detected through the initial assessment will be discussed,
- Training will be undertaken to address these gaps,
- Training will be undertaken for entire units where the student is not competent,
- Student will be assessed at either the end of training in a unit or when they wish to present hemselves for assessment.
- Assessment will be both summative and formative within each unit,
- Assessment will be holistic where applicable.

Graduates of the Retail Management program may pursue a variety of career options within the industry:
- store operations management positions in single-unit or multi-unit organizations which specialize in soft goods, hard goods or food retailing;
- buying and supply chain management positions in a retailer's or manufacturer's head office including: trend identification, assortment planning, selection and procurement, supply chain management and logistics functions;
- manufacturer's or sales agency's sales representative;
- strategic planning positions for retailers who must analyze rapidly changing consumer needs, the global retail environment and the impact of technology on changing retail formats;

Entry Requirements
Potential students need to have had previous experience in a retail environment possibly as a first line manager or as a manager of a small retail outlet, or a section/department within a larger retail store. Their job role would have involved the application of skill and knowledge in a wide range of contexts and included responsibility for their own outputs and some responsibility for the quality and output of others.
Recognition of Prior Learning may be available based on skills and knowledge acquired by the applicant through previous study and/or informal or formal learning through work and/or life experience.
Course Duration
This course is typically delivered via workshops and seminars after hours on a monthly basis throughout the year. However, it may also be delivered on a full time basis. Duration and delivery will depend on individual student needs.

Those wishing to gain entry into the Diploma of Retail Management will:
Be recognised as competent, through a recognised training program or recognition process, against the following units of competency:
WRRER1B Work effectively in a retail environment
WRRCS1B Communicate in the workplace
PLUS ONE of the following:
WRRCS4B Coordinate interaction with customers
WRRS4B Build relationships with customers
OR
Have previous experience in a retail environment. The job role would have involved application of skill and knowledge to a wide range of contexts and included responsibility for own outputs and some responsibility for the quality and output of others. |
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Advice |
The learner's language, literacy and numeracy levels are expected to be equivalent to Level 3 of the National Reporting System.
Reading and writing - a learner will be able to read, interpret and write a range of texts within a variety of contexts.
Oral communication - a learner will be able to use and respond to spoken language within a variety of contexts.
Numeracy and mathematics - a learner will be able to recognise and use a variety conventions and symbolism of formal mathematics. |
Qualification Requirements |
To achieve a Diploma of Retail Management a total of sixteen (16) units of competency must be completed. This comprises:
Ten (10) core units, and
Six (6) elective units
Core units in the Diploma previously completed as part of the Certificate IV in Retail Management qualification will be credited toward this Diploma qualification. |
