Certificate II in Retail Operations
This course is designed to help you begin your career in Australia’s ever-expanding retail industry. The course covers the basics, such as how to operate retail equipment, how to interact with customers and how to handle point of sales procedures.
It also prepares you for the more specialised responsibilities of retailers, such as how to monitor stock control, how to minimise theft and how to communicate and work effectively in a retail environment.
The course equips you with all the skills necessary to provide a safe workplace and enables you to carry out routine hygiene and sanitation practices.

- National Retail Security & Safety Consultant, Shell Australia
- Retail Operations Manager, Shell Australia
Alison retail management experience ranges from single site to multi-site franchise networks. She has a particulary good understanding of retail issues regarding inventory, people management, finance, operations, strategic management, frontline management, marketing and merchandising; and human resource development from the point of view of both franchisors and franchisees
In addition to her experience, Alison is a qualified trainer and holds relevant retail management qualifications.

Organisation of Delivery of Course
The qualification will be delivered and assessed as follows:
- An initial assessment will be done for each unit to determine if RCC/RPL may apply,
- RCC/RPL process will be commenced where applicable,
- Any competency gap detected through the initial assessment will be discussed,
- Training will be undertaken to address these gaps,
- Training will be undertaken for entire units where the student is not competent,
- Student will be assessed at either the end of training in a unit or when they wish to present themselves for assessment.
- Assessment will be both summative and formative within each unit,
- Assessment will be holistic where applicable.

What Skills will I have when I complete this course?
The course aims to develop general work skills while giving a specific overview of Chinese and Asian cookery methods and preparation of food. You will also learn interpersonal skills essential for a successful career in the hospitality industry.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
After this course, you will be able to continue on to study the Certificate III in Retail Operations or the Certificate III in Retail Supervision.

Personal interview. You must be aged 18 years or older to enrol

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.
