Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
Nationally recognised qualification that satisfies training criteria to deliver training services and conduct competency based assessments in accordance with national training frameworks and industry requirements. The Certificate IV in Assessment and Training replaces the Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training (BSZ40198) and is ideally suited to those seeking employment as a trainer and assessor or who are currently employed as a workplace trainer and assessor.

Cluster Options
Students may find that they do not wish to undertake the full qualification. Those students may enter one or more cluster options and exit with a statement of attainment:
- Learning facilitation cluster (5 units)
- Training program design cluster (5 units)
- Training work gropus (4 units)
- VET assessor cluster (4 units)
How is the course delivered?
Candidates must successfully complete a minimum of (12) core units and (2) electives. The program is delivered using a flexible approach combining direct delivery sessions along with a range of distance learning resources.
The qualification requires a strong focus on the theory of teaching and assessment in a VET context and as a result the program is demanding on individual students. Participants should plan to spend up to 160 hours in out-of-class study, project work and assessment.

1. Fully Facilitaed Delivery Model
Who should choose this method?
If you have no experience as a workplace trainer and assessor and would like to become a Qualified Workplace trainer and assessor, then this program will suit you.
Delivery method
- Face-to-face workshops with facilitator
- Duration of workshops 14 days (not consecutive)
- Project work required outside of workshop times
2. Assessment Only Model
Who should choose this method?
If you have current experience as a qualified trainer and assessor and hold the BSZ40198 qualification, then this program allows you to gain RPL/RCC for this and provides you with credited units towards the new TAA qualification.
Delivery method
- 1 on 1 RPL assessment with the facilitator
- Portfolio of evidence (guidelines provided)
- Duration 4 hours to review portfolio
- Evidence gathering required for portfolio outside of review time
Are there any prerequisites?
Learners and candidiates are expected to have a reasonable command of the English language and be competent in the use of computers. Preferably, candidates will have access to a work environment to facilitate the conduct of practical tasks including delivery and assessment projects.

What employment opportunities will I have?
Persons interested in developing the skills of others within the workplace are required to be trained assessors and workplace trainers. Many employers recognise the need for on going staff development strategy and engage the services of qualified staff as opposed to off-site formalised training.
What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Students may continue their studies in the Diploma of Training and Assessment.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and the how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.
