If you have skills and qualifications from overseas, you are eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).  It is possible to recognise your prior learning and immediately issue you with an Australian Qualification such as one of the Certifcates listed above or even a Diploma!

Case Study

Jane has five years experience as a cook in Europe and holds a Diploma from a recognised Hospitality Institute in London.  She applies for RPL and is assessed as 'competent' against the Australian Standards for commercial cooks.

As a result of the RPL assessment, Jane is awarded a Diploma of Hospitality Management and a Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) without attending any formal training classes.

If you are assessed as competent in some of the subjects required and not yet competent in some of the other subjects required for a particular qualification then you are issued with a 'Statement of Attainment' in only the subjects that you have been graded as competent. You will then need to undertake further study, coaching or experience in order to gain the necessary skills and knowledge in the required subjects before a re-assessment in those subjects and if successful, issue of the appropriate qualification.
